Beyond the ordinary

Winter (January – March): Believe it or not – estate sales happen in the winter too! Buyers are hunting for treasures and bargains all year round. People are spending their Christmas cash during this time. Online auctions are a safer bet in the winter as chilling temperatures and snow can deter buyers for in person estate sales.

Spring (April-June): Spring is a great time for estate sales because the weather is turning warmer and people are ready to get outside (in person sales) and “waking up” from winter hibernation mentally for online auctions. Resellers are preparing for the pre-Christmas shopping season, which starts in July.

Summer (July-September): Summer is full-on in person estate sale season and online auctions heat up too as people starting Christmas shopping in July. People go on vacation during this time, so it’s important to steer clear of Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. The summer goes fast so plan your estate sale early!

Fall (October-December): Fall is a perfect time to have an estate sale. The Christmas shopping season is in full swing for collectors as well as resellers. Snow and cold temperatures can be a factor, but weather is usually moderate right up until Christmas. The only part of this season that is not great for estate sales or auctions is after December 15. People are traveling and starting Christmas celebrations.
